TECHN0DE REIGNITING THE PULSE OF TECHNO IN PERTH
In the heart of New York City, Law Corden spent years immersed in the underground techno scene, performing, hosting, and curating events that pulsed with the raw energy of the genre. But when the world came to a halt in 2020, so did everything he had built. With a young daughter and a changing world, Law made the decision to return to his hometown of Perth, Western Australia, seeking stability in uncertain times.
Settling back into life in Perth, he soon found himself craving the sound that had defined his journey, the deep, driving beats of proper techno. But something was missing. The music he loved, the scene he once thrived in, was nowhere to be found. Perth had forgotten techno.
Rather than accept the silence, Law took action. If the sound didn’t exist, he would bring it back. In 2021, he launched his first event, bringing Christian Smith (Sweden, Drumcode) to Perth, a city he hadn’t played in for 18 years. The response was overwhelming. The event sold out, and faces from the past, techno lovers who had disappeared from the scene for over a decade, came together once again. It was clear, the hunger for real techno in Perth was still alive.
And so, Techn0de was born.
At one of these early events, while handing out stickers, Law met Kallide, a passionate techno DJ who boldly declared, "I want to play techno." She submitted a mix, and soon, a friendship and partnership formed. United by their vision, Law and Kate worked together to shape Techn0de into something much bigger than just a series of club nights.
From its underground beginnings, Techn0de has grown into a defining force in Perth’s electronic music landscape, pushing boundaries, and bringing some of the world's biggest techno artists to Australia. But more than just a brand, Techn0de is a movement, one that thrives on building community, creating opportunities for local and international artists, and keeping the pure essence of techno alive.
After years of absence, techno is finally back in Perth, louder, stronger, and more uncompromising than ever.
